On Thursday the Knox County School Board is going to revisit “the keep the people quiet” policy change. Last time they did this they cut the public forum from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.

They failed to enact the sole rule that in order to speak you must only sign up one business day prior to the Board Meeting. They left in policy that you can sign up before the meeting by speaking with the Board Vice Chair.

Now on Thursday they want to enact the prohibition of signing up prior to the meeting with the Vice Chair. According to Jesse Mayshark over at Compass Knox who was present at the Work Session (I watched the re-run on the Knox Schools YouTube) There is some concern about a large crowd of people before a meeting trying to show up, to sign up. Here is the reality, that large group of people are the ones the board members asked to be able to represent the people. The same people that pay for same people that pay for said table with tax dollars.

If there are enough people to talk until 3 a.m. then as the elected School Board Members, they need to sit and listen until 3 a.m.

On March 5, 2024 four of the Knox County School Board seats are up for election. Second District Jennifer Owen, Third District Daniel Watson, Fifth District Susan Horn and Eighth District Mike McMillan. Horn has announced she will NOT seek re-election and McMillan already has one announced opponent.
