Friday, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett was on the radio and the topic of Dr. James P. McIntyre, Jr.’s proposal was brought up. Burchett reminded the listeners that Sheriff Jimmy J.J. Jones proposed 20 additional officers for next year. The good Sheriff has pulled that request in light of Dr. McIntyre’s request for 58 additional school security officers. The question is where did the 58 come from if the county which is larger can be covered with an additional 20 officers, it would stand to reason the city could use 10 for a total of 30. But schools is asking for nearly double that. Where did the 58 number come from?
